The Panhandle Area Development District is designated by the U.S. Department of Commerce as a Federal Economic Development District.
This designation enables PADD to match local memberships with an EDA Planning Partnership Grant. This grant provides funding to develop and implement a regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy.
The planning partnership grant also provides funding for PADD to assist communities with grant writing, environmental reviews, and community surveys.
Additionally, the funds help PADD assist many projects such as entreprenurial assistance,
WNTC tourism,and the Heartland Expressway.
Maintaining a CEDS in the Panhandle also makes local governments eligible for public works grants from EDA. This has provided funding for many regional projects including over $2 million for the Harms Advanced Technology Center (HATC), over $1 million for water distribution improvements in Sidney, funding for a rail spur In Kimball, business park infrastructure in Chadron and stormwater drainage improvements in Scotts Bluff County.
